A clear summer's day is picture perfect for motorcycle riding, but the hot temperatures can be a challenge and your current gear set-up may not be compatible with the rising temperatures. We've created the following guide to ensuring your motorcycle gear is ready for summer. If you have any questions or want to explore motorcycles for sale, head over to Peak Powersports! Our dealership is based in Sheridan, Wyoming, and we also proudly serve those in Buffalo.

The Motorcycle Helmet

Some motorcycle helmets may feel hot and stuffy as the temperatures outside increase. It's important to get a helmet with extra ventilation to keep you comfortable on your ride.

We always recommend riding with a full-face helmet since it will offer the most amount of protection. But some motorcycle riders opt for a half-helmet in the summer to enjoy more of the breeze on their face.

The Eye Protection

You want to shield your eyes from dust, kicked-up debris, and so-on. But summer days can also bring the annoyance of bright rays of sunshine, which can decrease your visibility and make it harder to safely ride your motorcycle. All you need is a pair of sunglasses to give yourself the UV protection and visibility you need. Just make sure they fit well with your helmet.

The Riding Outerwear

A leather jacket may be an iconic part of motorcycle attire, but it's not the best choice for summer. Leather is simply too stiff and hot to be comfortable to wear on a hot day. Instead, choose outerwear that is made from breathable material and offers cooling mesh material and vents. It's also helpful to pick light-colored clothing since it will deflect sunlight, unlike dark-colored clothing that will absorb the light and make you feel even hotter. It's important to always wear outerwear in the summer, even though temperatures are rising. The outerwear offers valuable protection if you do end up in a crash. With a little research, you can find outerwear that gives the protection you want without causing you to feel uncomfortably hot on your motorcycle ride.

The Gloves

Motorcycle gloves help protect your skin in the event of a crash. They also help give you extra grip on your controls. Look for motorcycle gloves that come with mesh panels, which can help promote proper airflow and prevent sweaty hands.

The Boots

Flip-flops and sandals may be your footwear of choice in the summer, but they do not belong on a motorcycle ride. It's important to wear sturdy boots that can protect your feet while you ride. If you find your usual riding boots make your feet too sweaty, look for motorcycle boots with ventilation features.

Socks

You may want to alter your socks when you ride your motorcycle in the summer. Otherwise, you could be stuck with sweaty feet your whole ride. Look for socks built from moisture-wicking materials to keep your feet comfortable.

A Bandana

The hot temperatures can cause your forehead to sweat. A bandana catches this dripping sweat before it gets into your eyes.
